- MAKKAH: The Makkah municipality has started early this week the implementation of a project aimed at fighting stray dogs, monkeys, rodents and pests in Makkah, the holy sites and their suburbs.
This was announced Tuesday by the director of the municipality’s department for cleaning Saleh Abdul Samad Ezzat.
He said the project was assigned to a national company under a five-year contract within a comprehensive strategy to free Makkah and the holy sites of the unwelcome guests.
Ezzat said the company would employ about 600 workers and specialized technicians using vehicles and other equipment to do the job.
He said the company would focus on the breeding spots of these animals and pests to prevent them from multiplying.
"The project is aimed at cleaning the environment and providing the best of services to citizens, expatriates, pilgrims and visitors to the holy city," he said.
