Gyurcsany, who resigned in the midst of a severe economic crisis in April 2009, said Saturday that he and nine other Socialist lawmakers will form the new parliamentary faction next week.

Gyurcsany headed the government for over four stormy years, including a series of riots in 2006 after it was revealed he had lied about the state of economy during the election campaign.

Gyurcsany is widely blamed for the Socialists’ disastrous showing in the 2010 election, which allowed Prime Minister Viktor Orban’s Fidesz party to win a two-thirds majority.
