- JEDDAH: A handicapped child who was lucky to have met Crown Prince Sultan, taken a commemorative picture with him and got his rosary, grieved deeply when he learned of the humanitarian prince’s death on Saturday from his schoolteacher.
Abdullah Adel Al-Jeraid, 11, still remembers his meeting with the second most important person in the country six years ago.
He said he could not control his grief when he heard the sad news.
Prince Sultan had donated $50,000 for Al-Jeraid’s treatment in Germany and told his father: “I want to see Abdullah walking like other healthy children.” When Adel Al-Jeraid and his son arrived at the royal palace, Sultan was busy meeting with foreign ambassadors.
“During his busy itinerary, Sultan found time to meet me and my child,” Adel said, adding that the prince gave $30,000 for Al-Jeraid to travel to Germany for the second time.
Sultan’s conversation with Al-Jeraid is one of the most witnessed video clips on YouTube and it showed that the prince was ready to do everything for the child and give whatever he wanted. Al-Jeraid met with the prince while he was five, and now he is in Class 6.
