The head of Al-Otaibiya municipality branch, Anwar Nur, said that specialized teams intensified their inspection on food and grocery shops.

More than 650 shops were inspected since the start of the month of Dul Hijjah and 35 were found violating health conditions and were shut down. Other shops with minor violations were issued warnings and fined and ordered to fix their situation.

During this campaign, more than 134 kilos of food products were seized in addition to 458 pieces of kitchen appliances.

He also said that a special committee formed from several government departments is now inspecting Makkah streets to prevent street peddlers and to arrest them. He said that the Makkah municipality intensified their efforts since the arrival of pilgrims to protect their safety.
