Zach Parise also scored for the Devils in the shootout, and Alex Ovechkin connected for Washington.

New Jersey got goals from Petr Sykora and Ryan Carter in the second period to erase a 2-0 deficit. The Devils have won three of four games.

Troy Brouwer and Jason Chimera scored for the Capitals in the first.

Washington coach Bruce Boudreau was denied in his first try at his 200th NHL victory.

In Boston, Tyler Seguin scored twice and had an assist as Boston increased its season-high winning streak to five with a victory over Buffalo.

Brad Marchand had a goal and two assists, Rich Peverley and Chris Kelly had a goal and an assist each, and Zdeno Chara assisted on two goals for Boston (8-7), which has a winning record for the first time this season.

The Bruins, who got goals 16 seconds apart from Seguin and Nathan Horton in the second period, have scored 30 goals during their longest streak since winning seven straight last spring.

In Detroit, Johan Franzen , Darren Helm and Brad Stuart scored in the third period, and Detroit beat Dallas.

With the game tied at 2, Valtteri Filppula drove to the net from the left. After his backhanded attempt, Franzen was on the opposite side to poke the puck across the goal line.

Helm scored by redirecting a nice pass from Jiri Hudler with 10:41 remaining, and Stuart added another goal 73 seconds later.

The Red Wings have won four straight, part of a streaky start to their season.

In Columbus, Ohio,  rookie Ryan Johansen , a healthy scratch in the previous game, had his first two-goal effort, and Steve Mason made with 35 saves to help struggling Columbus end a three-game losing skid.

Johansen has scored the winning goal in all three of Columbus’ victories.

The Jets have lost five straight (0-3-2).

Mason, near the bottom among NHL goalies with a 3.88 goals-against average, was solid all night. He made many of his best saves in the third period as the Jets turned up the pressure.

In Raleigh, North Carolina, Eric Staal scored for the first time in a month and Carolina beat Pittsburgh.

Staal converted a rebound with 4:34 remaining, smacking the puck past Brent Johnson to give the Hurricanes a 4-3 lead after they wasted a three-goal advantage. It was Staal’s fourth goal of the season and first since Oct. 18.

Chad LaRose added a breakaway score with 2:30 left.

Jeff Skinner had a goal and two assists, and Tuomo Ruutu had two goals for the Hurricanes.

In St. Louis, Brian Elliott stopped 19 shots, and defenseman Kris Russell scored in his St. Louis debut to lead the Blues over Tampa Bay.

St. Louis improved to 5-0-1 in its last six home games. The Blues have earned five points in three games under new coach Ken Hitchcock, who replaced Davis Payne on Sunday.

In Nashville, Tennessee, Max Pacioretty scored 2:31 into overtime to lift Montreal over Nashville in front of a sellout crowd.

David Desharnais also scored for Montreal and assisted on the game-winner.

Shea Weber had the lone goal for the Predators.

Desharnais scored the only goal of the first period with 6:11 remaining. As goalie Pekka Rinne dove to his right side, Desharnais skated into the crease and backhanded the puck into the open side of the net.

In Denver, Miikka Kiprusoff made 36 saves, Lee Stempniak had a goal and assist, and Calgary held on to beat Colorado for the eighth straight time.

Jarome Iginla, Paul Byron and Curtis Glencross also scored for the Flames, who built a 4-0 lead and then had to hang on for their second win over the Avalanche in six days.

Milan Hejduk had a goal and assist, and Matt Duchene and David Jones also scored for the Avalanche, which have lost six of eight home games this season.

In San Jose, California, Mike Smith made 31 saves in his 12th NHL shutout, and Phoenix beat San Jose.

Radim Vrbata , Boyd Gordon and Patrick O’Sullivan all scored for Phoenix. Smith won for the sixth time in seven games and posted his first shutout since April 3, 2011. Smith handled the Sharks constant pressure in the third period and made 15 saves.

Phoenix won in San Jose for the first time since April 9, 2009, a span of six games. 

In Los Angeles, defensemen Alex Martinez and Matt Greene scored on the front and back ends of a four-goal second period, Colin Fraser added a goal, and Los Angeles breezed past Minnesota in Terry Murray’s 1,000th regular-season game as an NHL coach.

Twelve Kings got on the score sheet. Simon Gagne had a goal and an assist, captain Dustin Brown also scored, and Justin Williams had two assists.

Jonathan Quick made 24 saves for the win after losing his previous six starts. His teammates staked him to a 5-0 lead through two periods against a team that had won five of six and allowed an average of 1.56 goals over 14 games.

In Toronto, Craig Anderson made 31 saves, Nick Foligno scored two goals and Ottawa snapped its five-game losing streak by beating Toronto.

Sergei Gonchar, Zack Smith and Milan Michalek added goals for Ottawa, which continues its six-game road trip with a swing through Western Canada next week.
