- LONDON: The Saudi Ambassador to the UK, Prince Muhammad bin Nawaf, on Wednesday criticized The Independent newspaper of Britain for giving a wrong picture of the Awamiya incident in the eastern Saudi city of Qatif last month when rioters opened fire and threw bombs at police.
“The report, published by the daily on Wednesday, gave an opposite picture of the incident,” the ambassador said in a letter sent to the paper.
He said the paper’s misleading report was unacceptable.
Prince Muhammad referred to another wrong report published by The Independent about the Kingdom earlier this year, adding that the paper later acknowledged it was wrong in its claims and accepted the court verdict.
