The society’s dialysis centers in Jeddah provided fulsome meals to the patients who come for dialysis sessions in addition to monthly purchase coupons worth SR250, the report said.

There are about 11,000 renal failure patients in the Kingdom requiring dialysis. Their number is expected to grow by 9 percent annually.

Last year the charity provided 26,705 dialysis sessions for its patients across the Kingdom. The report also pointed out that Jeddah has the largest number of kidney patients in the Kingdom.

At present 15 Health Ministry hospitals, eight private hospitals and five hospitals belonged to different government departments in the Makkah province provide dialysis services.

In a previous statement, Dr. Faisal Shaheen, chairman of the Saudi Center for Organ Transplantation, said there are 3,300 patients in Jeddah who require dialysis.

The Prince Fahd Society established the dialysis center at King Fahd Hospital in Jeddah at a cost of SR60 million. It is one of the largest in the Middle East.

There are 17 consultants for renal diseases, 34 doctors and 280 nurses at the center, which can treat 800 patients daily, the report said.

The society, which was established about 12 years ago at the initiative of Defense Minister Prince Salman, provides advanced treatment for renal failure patients all over the Kingdom.

The charity distributes medicine among kidney patients at discounted rates and provides them with early diagnosis services.
