Dozens of demonstrators entered the parliament chamber last week angered by corruption allegations against government officials. Opposition groups say the prime minister should be ousted.

The emir, Sheik Sabah Al Ahmed Al-Sabah, called the parliament fracas a “black day for us.” But he said he will not dismiss the prime minister under pressure.

His comments to Kuwaiti newspaper editors were published Monday.

The oil-rich nation is frequently gripped by political upheaval with opposition groups accusing the ruling family of abusing its powers.
