Aviation official Jhon Rettop says the Cessna 208B Caravan crashed into a cliff Wednesday as it was approaching a remote airport in Papua province for landing.

He says the Spanish pilot of the Susi Air plane — which was carrying food and other supplies, not passengers — died on his way to a hospital in Timika.

The co-pilot, a New Zealander, was in critical condition.

It was the second deadly crash for Susi Air in the jungle-clad mountains of Papua in several months.
