The resident was put in prison after his sponsor lodged a complaint that the worker had run away from his firm.

The NSHR’s move came after the Pakistani resident’s family approached the organization for help. The family wanted to know the reasons for the arrest of their breadwinner.

“We have started communicating with various departments,” Maatouk Al-Sharief, a member of NSHR told Arab News.

He said the society would make sure the complaints made by the family were genuine as according to the law nobody should be detained for long a period without any legitimate reasons.

Meanwhile, Hussein Al-Sharief, supervisor of NSHR in the Makkah province, said his organization has observed remarkable decrease in the number of such cases in recent years as a result of the public awareness campaigns carried out by his organization.

“We’ll continue our visits and contacts with the government departments in order to discuss matters. We’ll also advice the public to follow the right mechanism to deal with their cases.”

Referring to increasing number of medical mistake cases, Al-Sharief said his organization has decided to conduct field visits of hospitals and health centers in Jeddah and other cities in the province to make sure they follow the government regulations.

He said his organization had previously conducted a number of visits to hospitals and other health facilities in the province, including mental hospitals. He called for the imposition of tough and deterrent punishments on those who commit such mistakes.

Al-Sharief said his organization was successful in dealing with violence against children and family violence. The NSHR’s women’s wing has been distributing its magazine and a directory of guidance among schoolchildren and families.
