- MADINAH: An Indian pilgrim was stopped from killing himself in a hotel in the central zone in Madinah on Thursday morning.
The man attempted suicide by setting fire to flammable furniture — bed and carpet in his hotel room — and waited to be consumed by the flames.
But people in neighboring rooms noticed thick smoke coming out of the man's room and immediately called the police.
A Civil Defense team arrived quickly and pulled the man out of the burning room. They later sent him to a nearby hospital in a Red Crescent ambulance.
The Indian confessed to police that he was attempting to commit suicide, said Maj. Bandar Al-Ahmadi, Civil Defense spokesman in Madinah.
