“The case against the culprit has been submitted to the General Court in Jeddah,” an official source at the Prosecution and Investigation Bureau said on Friday.

The crime sheet against the 42-year-old suspect includes kidnapping, threatening victims, torturing, forcing them to drink liquor, and showing them pornographic videos besides raping and abandoning them on public roads, the source said.

The victims were aged between six and 12 years and the crimes were committed between the years of 2008 and 2011.

The evidences against him included victim’s statements, medical reports, identification by the victims and images registered by closed circuit monitoring cameras at locations from where some of the girls were kidnapped.

The DNA tests conducted with the fluids and other traces left on clothes of victims and samples taken from his house also pinned the crime on the man beyond doubt, the official said.

The serial kidnappings and later arrest of the man had created an uproar in the media. Relatives of the suspect accused the police of being influenced by media and demanded unbiased investigations at that time.

According to media reports the first kidnapping was made at a wedding hall in the middle of 2008 after he lured a girl of nine to his car. He requested the girl to take a gift to the bride he had left in the car. The unsuspecting girl accompanied him to the car and once she was inside the car, the man forcibly took her to his house. There was no one in the house as his wife and children had gone to her father’s house. After the rape he abandoned her at a distant place.

He did not, reportedly, commit any crime in that year.

However, next year various police stations in the city registered seven rape cases in similar circumstances but without any clue about the culprit. The parents of girls in these cities were in a terrified state about ‘the stalking brute.’

Since all the reported incidents were nearly identical, police set up a special team and stepped up investigations. Still the criminal eluded all police attempts to catch him.

Once in 2009, police got a call from a worker in a commercial center in south Jeddah about a lonely man often coming to the place and attempting to befriend small girls. However, the monitoring camera did not capture any clear image of the man.

In 2010, only one case identical to the past eight incidents was reported. It took place in south Jeddah. This time the victim was 10 years old and was lured away from a hospital.

In the next attempt in early 2011 he was caught while taking a girl to his car. The spectators beat him up but did not report to police. Three more cases were reported. However, the last victim, who was seven years old, gave a photographic description of the location and house where she was raped. This helped the police to locate the house. Her statements matched the statements of other victims. This led to the arrest and further investigations.
