- MUMBAI: India's selectors have recalled pace bowler Praveen Kumar to a 16-man Test squad for the upcoming tour of Australia while leaving out experienced spinner Harbhajan Singh.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India announced Saturday that Kumar, who last played a Test for India during a tour of England in July this year, will join the pace trio of Ishant Sharma, Umesh Yadav and Varun Aaron, who all figured in an ongoing home Test series against the West Indies.
Experienced pace bowler Zaheer Khan will join the team as the 17th member subject to his match fitness, which will be assessed after some domestic games.
Khan, who suffered injuries to his hamstring and ankle in England, has not played in any format since then.
The success of spinners Ravichandran Ashwin and Pragyan Ojha during the West Indies series denied Harbhajan Singh a chance to make a return.
Off-spinner Ashwin bagged 22 wickets in the series against the West Indies while left-arm spinner Ojha finished with 20.
