- JEDDAH: One hundred and thirty people detained in connection with terrorism cases at Prince Muhammad bin Naif Center for Advice and Care completed their rehabilitation on Sunday.
Interior Ministry spokesman Maj. Gen. Mansour Al-Turki said about 350 of their relatives attended their graduation ceremony.
He said the detainees had undergone thorough rehabilitation programs consisting of lectures and courses in Islamic Shariah, security, social and psychological issues in addition to sports and fine arts.
The center has enabled 68 of the detainees and 187 of their family members to perform Haj this year.
It also helped two detainees to complete their university education and enrolled 35 in advanced computer courses. The graduates will participate in follow-up programs designed to ensure them with social stability.
Al-Turki said during the past two months procedures were completed for 23 detainees to join the center. He said the group represented the first batch of 223 detainees who would join the center later to undergo rehabilitation.
The spokesman said 666 people who benefited from the center’s rehabilitation programs had been released from detention, including 351 during 1432AH.
He said detainees who join the center enjoy a number of benefits, including spending the religious and official holidays with their families. “They are also allowed to receive visitors and to join educational institutions to complete their studies.”
According to Al-Turki, the detainees spend three months in the center and go through a number of training and rehabilitation programs.
He added that the programs extended to the detainees consist of 15 hours weekly to study Islamic Shariah subjects, six hours weekly for social programs, and five hours each for programs on psychology, history and fine arts in addition to 12 hours of sports every week.
The center announced last year that the 130 people, who had been detained by security forces on terrorism charges, would join the rehabilitation programs.
