The announcement came following Education Minister Prince Faisal bin Abdullah's meeting with top civil defense officers, which discussed ways and means to ensure safety of students at schools across the Kingdom.

Attended by Lt. Gen. Saad Al-Tuwaijri, director general of civil defense, the meeting discussed how to combat possible fires in educational institutions. 

"The media campaign will explain safety requirements at schools," an official statement said, adding that it would also create awareness on how to avoid potential dangers at educational institutions.

"The campaign will explain how to deal with fires from the beginning and how to put it out," the statement said. The meeting comes following a massive fire that gutted Baraim Al-Watan school in Jeddah last week, killing three teachers and injuring 45 others.

The meeting decided to provide intensive training to the staff of educational institutions and appoint supervisors to monitor safety matters at schools.

It has been decided to conduct six mock drills for evacuation and fire fighting at schools every year in order to inject confidence among students and teachers. There will be internal mock drills and external drills with the participation of civil defense helicopters.

The meeting urged educational institutions to complete all safety requirements and precautions in order to avoid catastrophic accidents in the future.
