- JEDDAH: The natural springs of Al-Ahsa, in the Eastern Province, have recently been prepared to serve as a tourist attraction.
- The Al-Ahsa irrigation and sewage authority constructed swimming pools and toilets for men and women.
The project aims to preserve the historic nature of the area while providing a pleasant destination for domestic and external visitors.
The springs have been attracting visitors from various regions for tourism and medical treatment. Ahsa is the Arabic word to describe a mountainous area, covered by sand that stores the rainwater. There are about 30 springs in the area and at Al-Ahsa clean potable water can be found a few meters below the ground.
Al-Ahsa has more than 10,000 hectares of arable land, for which concrete canals extending to more than 500 km were constructed.
These distribute water from the springs to moisten the soil, benefiting over two million palm trees, rice and various types of vegetables.
