The five-day conference, which is likely to be opened by Crown Prince Naif, deputy premier and minister of interior, will highlight Saudi Arabia’s efforts to protect its land and marine borders.

“It will also shed light on the problems and challenges facing the Saudi authorities to ensure border security,” an official statement said.

The conference will emphasize the role of border security in boosting the social, economic and cultural development of the Kingdom.

“It will also help Saudi border guard officers exchange information and expertise with regional and international experts in the field,” the statement said.

The conference will emphasize the important role played by border guards in foiling attempts to smuggle drugs and weapons into the Kingdom.

The organizing committee has invited research papers on various topics of the conference from Saudi and foreign experts. The last date to receive excerpts from potential research papers is Jan. 9.

The conference will focus on 11 core subjects, including international borders: systems and laws; Saudi borders: origin and regulations; national, regional and international border security experiments; training programs; border security technology; strategic partnership; women and border security; the role of society in border security; and remembering officers who were martyred in defense of the Kingdom’s borders.

“There will be a special session to highlight the role of border security in boosting social, cultural and economic development,” the statement said.

It is worth mentioning that the first unit of the border guards was established during the time of King Abdul Aziz, the founder of Saudi Arabia.
