Footage from Associated Press Television News showed a palanquin entering Seoul’s Jongmyo Shrine Tuesday as it carried the documents. Men dressed in royal clothes placed the documents in a royal shrine then as traditional music filled the air.

The documents were later moved to a national museum. They describe weddings, funerals and other important events from a royal dynasty era. Japan returned them to South Korea earlier this year in a goodwill gesture promoting ties.

Japan took away a large number of royal documents during its 35-year colonial rule of the Korean peninsula that ended in 1945.
