The wedding day symbolizes the most significant day in the life of a bride.

Naturally, each bride wants to look her best on this day, and to achieve this, most brides choose skin care treatments with their dermatologist and book appointments with their beauty specialist.

Along with beauty treatments, brides should make an effort on their part to make sure that their skin looks soft, smooth and glowing.

“Brides are usually nervous and anxious before their big day, and what goes on in the mind reflects on the face as well,” said dermatologist Arwa Shaheen. “This is the reason rashes, zits or other skin reactions can appear days before the wedding.”

According to Shaheen, one of the first things that a bride needs to undertake, as a part of her bridal skin care, is a proper cleansing routine. “Brides should use a soft cleanser for their face subsequent to their morning bath and apply a deep moisturizer after,” she advised.

If and when brides wear makeup, they should remove it as soon as they get back home using a proper makeup remover, recommended Shaheen. “Brides should always wash their face before going to bed, followed by applying a good moisturizer.” A bride should also use a good exfoliating product at least three times a week.

Shaheen further recommended brides with oily skin to avoid toners containing alcohol, as they can dry the surface of the skin and block impurities beneath the surface. “Over drying the skin is one of the biggest mistakes women with oily skin make. Toners with alpha-hydroxy acid (AHA) are a better choice, because they help smooth the skin's texture and prevent clogged pores. Cucumber water, applied with a clean cotton pad, is another good option,” she said.

Shaheen thinks that this is a great time to consult a professional dermatologist. “Brides should tell them their wedding date and their skin care goals. Doctors may recommend treatments such as crystal peels or regular facials that will help brides have picture-perfect skin,” she said.

The doctor usually advises women to experiment with new cosmetic products from time to time, but trying new cosmetics or makeup should not happen when they are about to get married. “No matter how tempting the color of the new foundation, lipstick, blusher or powder may seem, don't give in to the temptation, especially if you have sensitive skin. Applying something entirely new on the face might trigger allergies and leave dark spots or scars on the skin,” she warned.

A wedding diet can actually be one of the best ways for a bride to get the perfect look on her special day, according to nutritionist Nadia Shaker. “Losing weight quickly is not a good idea, however, as it can cause an empty, queasy stomach, dry skin, dull hair and leave the bride with no energy,” she said. “This is why it is recommended to do the weight loss activity months before the wedding day.”

A smart diet can give the bride glowing skin, shiny hair and energy for her special day.

Drinking plenty of water is highly exhorted by the nutritionist, as it helps with balancing the diet structure and it gives the needed amount to prevent the body from becoming dry. “I highly recommend that brides drink eight glasses of water on daily basis; this will help them lose weight and obtain good and healthy skin,” said Shaker.

While increasing their water consumption, Shaker said brides should be decreasing their caffeine consumption. Not only will less caffeine help their skin, it will also help them be less stressed out.

Brides should watch their diet and get enough sleep, because it is important for both their skin and body. Brides should also avoid the stress of planning, as it makes it harder to lose weight, added Shaker. “When we are stressed, most of us turn to food for comfort,” she said.

Working out and yoga is good for the bride’s body and soul. “There is no way to lose weight and get into a wedding dress shape without exercise,” said Shaker. “In the months preceding your wedding, it is advisable to undertake light exercise on a regular basis. Apart from helping you stay in shape, it will improve the blood circulation and bring a glow to your skin.”
