- JEDDAH: The happiness of a Saudi citizen who received a piece of land from the Madinah municipality was cruelly cut short after he learned the plot was inaccessible because it was surrounded by land from all directions, had no entry or exit points, and was also not registered in his name.
Telling his story to Al-Madinah newspaper, Abdullah Al-Riwaithi said the municipality granted him the piece of land in the Al-Hanakiya area in 1998.
He said he was overjoyed before he discovered the plot was totally inaccessible. "The only solution before me was to exchange it with another piece of land but this process, which began about 14 years ago, is still ongoing," he said.
Al-Riwaithi said he requested the municipality to give him another piece of land instead, but the authority deferred his request to the Al-Hanakiya branch municipality, which asked him to bring the original land deed before it could complete the registration procedures.
He said he went to the general court to access their records and found the land was no longer registered in his name.
"I went back to the municipality and told them the land had no owner and should be registered in my name. They promised to do so but so far nothing has been done."
