- MOSCOW: Prime Minister Vladimir Putin has promised that his government will become more accountable to the Russian people if he wins a third presidential term in March.
Putin laid out his priorities for the future on a campaign website that went online Thursday.
Some of his proposals appear aimed at reclaiming the initiative from protesters tired of corruption and Putin’s centralized, top-down rule. Other proposals match the agenda set by President Dmitry Medvedev when he took over from Putin in 2008.
The protest movement gathered force after a parliamentary election last month that observers said was blatantly rigged in favor of Putin’s party. Putin, who has been in power since 2000, is still expected to win the March 4 election.
