The program called "Let’s make the nation a wonder of Asia" engaged Muslim, Hindu, Christian, Buddhist and other members of the Sri Lankan community at the country's consulate general in Jeddah.

“The Sri Lankan Expatriate Society has engaged the community to come on one platform under one umbrella. My aim is to unite the community. We have to work together for the development of the country. To improve and overcome community problems, they must come forward and join hands,” said H.M. Rafeek, the president of the society.

He further said that no country can live in isolation and Sri Lanka is not an exception.

“We live in a world full of challenges. We are all ambassadors of our country so we should work together. We have a role to play to secure the future of our children. Experience taught me that nothing is impossible. We must carry on the good work, and not think what our country could do for us, but what we can do for our country,” Rafeek added.

Sri Lankan Consul General Adambawa Uthumalebbe, who is also the patron of the society, advised the community members that all of them are Sri Lankans without any difference, and that all expatriates are members of this organization, whether they like it or not.

The program included the inauguration of the society’s magazine and the launch of its new website www.slesj.com. A musical program and patriotic songs were presented by a Sri Lankan musical group and by singers Sanga Samand and Nilufa Rafewir.

Students of the Sri Lankan school made speeches on topics like "My country," "When I’ll become a professional" and "If I were the president."
