The session was presided over by its Shoura Council Chairman Abdullah Al-Asheikh.

Council Secretary-General Muhammed Al-Ghamdi said approval was given by a majority of members when the council's committee on security affairs presented the details of the convention.

Al-Ghamdi explained the convention includes the transfer of inmates of penal and correctional institutions that take into account human rights, as it allows the inmates to serve their sentences in their home country.

The convention covers transfer requests, mode of transport, cost of ferrying the inmates and other related details.

“Such an arrangement will enable a prisoner to be in his country and meet the members of his family as and when required,” he said.

The house also approved a suggestion made by the Saudi Standards, Metrology and Quality Organization to conduct tests on all local and imported goods before they enter the local market. The house proposed that such tests should also be conducted in the national laboratories of the Kingdom.

During the reading of the annual report of the organization, presented by the committee on economic affairs and energy, the house insisted global standards should be maintained in all forms of its tests and their respective reports. The members requested the organization to review the current standards of operations and raise them to an international level.

The Saudi Standards, Metrology and Quality Organization (SASO) was established following a royal decree as a judicial body with an independent budget. A board of directors headed by the minister of commerce and industry and comprising representatives from major sectors form the general executive body.

Headquartered in Riyadh, the organization has its branches in Jeddah, Tabuk, Dammam, Jazan and Hadithah.
