Global cosmetic giant L’Oréal is gearing up to widen further its current 13 percent market share by benefiting from e-commerce innovation.
While the UAE’s online shopping, estimated to hit $10 billion in 2018, tends to focus on electronics, accessories and fashion, L’Oréal aims to offer an unmatchable customer journey right at the doorstep with attractive packages.
L’Oréal has released several tenders to form a green supply chain that guarantees a great experience for consumers in the region.
However, will local consumers adopt a virtual online shopping experience away from the points of sales abundantly available around?
Executive VP of Operations Barbara Lavernos said: “L’Oréal’s pioneering experience in e-commerce is second to none based on innovation and evolution. We did it in the US, Europe, Asia and we have no doubt that local consumers will embrace our revolutionary e-customer journey. This would add up to our holistic sustainability approach culture of change whereby we adapt it from sourcing our products within less privileged communities up to our consumers whom we engage by collecting our recyclable empty bottles.”
“The path is long yet indispensable,” she added.
Lavernos said localization for a multinational group such as L’Oréal is essential
“We have been here for over 30 years and when we seek a more sustainable future, we would naturally need to consolidate with the local community for generations to come. We have a partnership with Dubai Foundation for Women and Children to empower women who come from underprivileged backgrounds such as domestic abuse and human trafficking. This falls in line with our philanthropic ‘Beauty For A Better Life’ program which provided vocational training in the beauty category for more than 3,100 women around the globe. The program kicked off in partnership with DFWAC in Q4 last year and we are looking to expand it across the region. We also have a partnership with Imdaad to ensure the recycling of our POS material and EEG for recycling of our paper,” she said.
The developments at L’Oréal UAE come a year post restructuring the local operations where L’Oréal formed an independent sales and operations unit while consolidating the logistics through the Jebel Ali-based group Mohebi.
