Saudi retail pharmacy chain Nahdi Medical Company and Zamzam Charitable Association have provided health-care services to 16,735 needy patients across the Kingdom, since the establishment of their community-based partnership in 2016.
The partnership serves as a model of productive cooperation between the private sector and non-profit social organizations based on Saudi Vision 2030, which calls for joint efforts to develop the health-care sector and provide the best services for Saudi people. Nahdi won the Gulf Sustainability Award in Dubai, which the company, in turn, presented to Zamzam in recognition of its role in the partnership.
Building on this success, Zamzam and Nahdi on April 4 signed an agreement, under which Nahdi’s customers can donate “Nouhdik” points, which can be monetized, to the association. The agreement was signed by Nahdi Medical Company CEO Yasser Joharji and Zamzam Charitable Association Chairman Adnan Al-Bar.
“The Zamzam Charitable Association, with, the support of organizations, has achieved significant leaps in the field of voluntary health work, and Nahdi Medical Company was one of the most important supporters of the association and the needy patients,” said Al-Bar. “We are delighted to work with Nahdi in the long term to realize the Kingdom’s Vision 2030 and our goals together to elevate the Saudi community and help those in need.”
Joharji said the company is proud of the results achieved under the partnership with Zamzam, which is now in its third year.
“We are glad to see this huge increase in the number of beneficiaries and donors. As part of our CSR program, we will continue to help needy patients and educate society on health care issues, in line with the Kingdom’s Vision 2030,” he said
Zamzam and Nahdi’s partnership includes three initiatives: Zamzam Medical Convoys, Charity Pharmacy and Your Riyals Give Hope.
The first initiative saw Nahdi pharmacists join 71 convoys, operated by Zamzam, in 23 villages in five cities across the western region. More than 8,532 patients benefited from these medical convoys.
The pharmacy chain donated medicines worth SR500,000 ($133,310) and its pharmacists volunteered 1,320 hours to educate patients, give medical advice and disburse medications.
Under the Charity Pharmacy initiative, Zamzam provided medicines to patients who could not afford to buy them. Around 6,667 patients benefited from discounts Nahdi offered to Zamzam.
Under the Your Riyals Give Hope initiative, Nahdi’s customers donated their change from purchases to help patients. This effort saw an annual growth of 211 percent in the amount collected. More than 750,000 customers donated for the campaign in 2018 compared to 191,000 in 2017, a growth of 292 percent.
