The first round of the 4th Saudi Star Drift Championship recently concluded at the Alkhobar Corniche.

The championship is organized by Captain Abdullah Bakhashab, Saudi motorsport developer, under the patronage of the Saudi Arabian Motor Federation (SAMF) and is sponsored by Nissan Saudi Arabia, Total Saudi Arabia and Alif Alif FM.

The tournament includes four rounds being held across the country.

The first place in the professional category was bagged by Nicolas Sulaiman with a total of 70.34 points, while Zaid Al-Hazza took the final seat by winning the Nissan category. Contestant Ahmed Al-Issa scored 69.44 points, while Ahmed Farouk scored 58.66 points.

Bakhashab said he was happy with the huge turnout at the first round of the tournament. He said the contestants performed well, showing a high level of technical skills.

“The attendance was as good as the participation, which confirms the development of motorsport in the Kingdom,” Bakhashab said. “This tour has included a number of bright names, which has raised the level of performance and ... this is a positive indicator for the next rounds. I would like to thank the Eastern Province governor, secretary, youth sports supervisors and security officials for their efforts to make the tour a success.”

Contestants who qualified in the first round of the Saudi Star Championship 2017 include: Michelle Piccolas in the professional category, Ahmed Al-Essa in the applicants category and Khalid Al-Zaid in the junior category.
