The Salem bin Mahfouz Foundation (SBMF) has handed out 16,000 food baskets across the Makkah, Madinah and Jazan regions.

The food baskets are part of the foundation’s second phase of “We’re All Responsible” program, through which the SBMF has given away aid worth SR9 million ($2.4 million) to help people amid the COVID-19 outbreak.

Mamdooh Hassan Al-Harbi, executive director of SBMF, said the foundation’s board of trustees decided to allocate resources from the 2020 budget to alleviate the consequences resulting from the coronavirus pandemic. “The foundation has earmarked SR9 million in the form of food, health and awareness initiatives,” he said.

The foundation supports a number of national initiatives, including the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Development’s “Our Food is One;” the “Makkah’s Charity” initiative, launched by Prince Khalid Al-Faisal, adviser to King Salman and governor of Makkah; the “Madinah’s Charity” initiative, launched by Prince Faisal bin Salman, governor of Madinah; and the “Social Development” initiative, launched by Prince Mohammad bin Nasser, governor of Jazan.

“The foundation has launched a new initiative worth SR3.4 million to distribute food baskets in three regions. Earlier, it distributed in the Makkah region food baskets and aid worth SR300,000, in the form of iftar meals during the crisis,” Al-Harbi said. He lauded the Saudi government for its generous support in fighting and mitigating the impact of COVID-19.

The foundation aims to contribute to the overall sustainable development in society through launching sustainable initiatives in accordance with the global best practices. The foundation also offers grants in three areas: Education, empowerment of nonprofit organizations, and social development.
