No amnesty has been declared so far for the illegal migrant workers in the Kingdom, according to a clarification issued for the benefit of the Indian expatriate community in Saudi Arabia by the Consulate General of India yesterday.
The clarification was issued in view of the ongoing campaign by the Saudi government to correct and legalize the residency status of the migrant labor in the Kingdom.
“The consulate is in touch with the Saudi authorities and will notify the community if it receives any information in this regard,” said a press note from the consulate.
A number of people have been approaching the consulate in Jeddah for outpasses (emergency certificates). At present, the consulate is accepting application forms for outpass, which will be issued only after completion of formalities and after the Saudi authorities agree to grant permission for the final exit of the applicants.
“The consulate will continue to issue updates on these matters through regular media release. A 24-hour helpline (0596810574) has also been set up to provide guidelines in this regard,” it said. The consulate explained that emergency certificate is a one-way travel document valid for three months only.
