DUBAI: Tunisian political party, Ennahda, said on Friday it will file a challenge with the Administrative Court against the decision to put senior official Anouar Maarouf under house arrest.

Ennahda called the arrest “abusive and does not respect legal procedures,” in a statement published by the state news agency TAP.

It stated that it rejected the “illegal” measure that has affected judges, activists and politicians, expressing solidarity with Anouar Maarouf and with “the victims of these procedures.”

Ennahdha called on the President of the Republic to end the procedures violating the provisions of the constitution, the law and international treaties.

Anouar Maarouf is the most prominent member of the party to be targeted since President Kais Saied dismissed the prime minister and suspended parliament on July 25 in moves Ennahda branded a coup.

Maarouf was minister of communications and technology from 2016-20 , a government department which Saied has suggested parties tried to manipulate for their own advantage.
