JEDDAH, 27 May — Minister of Agriculture and Water Abdullah Muammar opened “Food Arabia, Hotel Arabia, Propac Arabia,” at the International Exhibition & Convention Center here yesterday.
The minister told reporters later that both the variety of foodstuffs and machinery on display and the manner in which they had been exhibited were impressive. “The entire expo is of a very high standard and compares with the best in the world,” he said commenting on the show.
“Product displays, especially from the Middle East, the Far East, the United States and Europe, show that the market in the Kingdom is wide open and has vast potential. We’re glad many national and international companies are participating with their selected products,” the minister said.
More than 300 companies from 17 countries have their exhibits at the show which ends on Thursday. Turkey has the largest country pavilion.
The highlight of the biennial show, now in its eighth season, are the adventurous displays including working machinery and complete production lines in addition to the usual product sampling.
The propac section’s exhibits include plastics packaging and other machinery from a variety of manufacturers. International and local chefs are participating in a professional contest and also demonstrate food carving in a specially created auditorium at the show, organized by Al-Harithy Co. for Exhibitions.
