DUBAI: American singer-songwriter and actress Janelle Monae recently made a dazzling entrance on the red carpet at the NFL Honors in Las Vegas. The Grammy-nominated star wore a mirrored minidress by Lebanese label Tony Ward Couture, which came from the designer’s spring 2024 collection.
Monae accessorized with gold and diamond earrings by Reza, as well as a pair of black peep-toe pumps featuring a jeweled ankle strap. The singer was reportedly styled by Alexandra Mandelkorn, whose other clients include Rachel Brosnahan, Stephanie Hsu and Alexandra Shipp.
Monae, who has 10 Grammy nominations to her name, is also a prolific actor, most recently appearing in 2022’s “Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery,” in a central role.
Her other prominent performances include films “Hidden Figures” and “Moonlight.”
These roles, as Monee shared in an interview recently with The Hollywood Reporter, were chosen to showcase the multifaceted nature of African-American life and identity.
Monae said in the interview: “I grew up to essential working parents ... I’ve seen them wear their uniforms every single day. I’ve seen how my family has helped build this country and keep our communities clean. I know my ancestors helped build this country, right? And so for me I feel a deeper responsibility, especially through art, to make sure we are represented. Representation is super important. Our voices on screen, our presence on screen, it’s all super important.”
Monae emphasized the importance of these roles in reflecting the diversity within the Black community. “I’ve made it a point in my music career to make sure that the world knows that we’re not monolithic. You know, we can do the math that gets men into orbit and into space. We can also be in the ghettos in ‘Moonlight’ and support the Chirons.”

Meanwhile, earlier this month, Keke Palmer also chose to wear a Tony Ward outfit to the pre-Grammy gala in Hollywood, which has traditionally been held the night before the Grammys every year since 1976.
The lemon-yellow number boasted floral embroidery over petal-detailed lace work and hailed from Ward’s Spring/Summer 2024 ready-to-wear collection.
