RIYADH, 3 October 2004 — Philipp Holzmann-Saudi Arabia (SAB) has taken center stage afresh, with no contract too little to be locked up as it secures new projects in the Kingdom.

At present, it is involved in the construction of the new Libyan Embassy at the Diplomatic Quarter.

Talking about local operations, Tony Balchin, general manager, said: “Philipp Holzmann has an excellent reputation and good references in the region, and it is operating in high profile niches (like the Ministry of Defense projects and hospital construction like the Riyadh Military Hospital).”

It also plays an important role in the development network in the Middle East.

“The Saudi Arabia Branch (SAB) is now partnering with local companies to improve competitiveness and market penetration. It’s now revitalizing its presence in Saudi Arabia by targeting small to medium-sized projects. SAB is developing the market need for foreign expertise at competitive prices. There are still many customers ready to pay a premium for foreign quality and timely delivery,” said Balchin.

Balchin and his team have engineered a totally different way of doing business locally, with the SAB becoming more active and competitive in bidding for projects and liquidity is ensured by saving cash and being realistic in cost estimates.

He said that SAB adapts to every challenge and provides local market expertise to its clients in local administrative affairs — local planning and design; construction under local conditions; cooperation with local partners; management of human resources; local equipment and material procurement; local customs and tariff procedure for imports; logistics, transport arrangement and scheduling even to remote sites.
