DUBAI: The Arabia Wolves claimed a 5-4 victory against Karachi Monarchs on Wednesday night to extend their winning streak in Baseball United Season 1 to three matches — and end any hopes their opponents had of reaching the season-ending United Series.
Angelo Cabral had a solid 4.2 scoreless relief with only two hits and six strikeouts, including a Fire Ball scored, and Taylor Darden went 2-for-3 with a two-run double, to give the Dubai franchise victory at Baseball United Ballpark.
Cabral earned the win after working the batters with only 62 pitches, 39 of them strikes. Blake Purnell (2.0 IP, 2 H, 0 ER, 2 SO), Akeem Bostick (1.0 IP, 1 ER, 2 BB, 1 HR), Sean Fekete (1.0 IP, 2 H, 3 ER, 3 BB, 2 SO) and Reese Miller (0.1 IP, 0 ER), who earned the save, completed the pitching line for Arabia.
Along with Darden, Jacinto Cipriota went 1-for-3 with two runs batted in, while Elliot Good went 1-for-2 with one run scored, highlighting Arabia’s offense.
The result extended Arabia’s winning streak to three, following wins over Mumbai and Karachi twice. They are now 3-2 in the standings, tied with Mid East in second place after five games each in Baseball United Season One.
Other highlights:
Omar Veloz went 2-for-3 with one run scored and two RBIs, while Eric Meza went 2-for-5 with a solo home run, one run scored and two RBIs, to seal the Monarchs offense.
Konsta Kurikka took the loss, after 1.2 IP, where he allowed 3 hits, 3 earned runs, and gave five walks. Franklin Van Gurp (1.1 IP, 1 H 1 ER), Scott Ellis (4.0 IP, 3 H, 1 UR, 1 SO), and Isaac Milburn (2.0 IP, 1 BB, 5 SO, including a Fire Ball Scored), completed the pitching line for Karachi.
There were 22 runners in total left on base between the two teams (10 for Arabia, 12 for Karachi).
Karachi is now officially unable to reach the United Series.
