- Tom Berendsen reaffirms Amsterdam’s condemnation of Iranian aggression against Saudi Arabia, region’s countries
RIYADH: Saudi Arabia’s Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan met Tom Berendsen, the Netherlands’ foreign minister, in Riyadh on Wednesday.
The parties reviewed areas of bilateral cooperation and discussed regional developments, reported the Saudi Press Agency.
Berendsen reaffirmed Amsterdam’s condemnation of Iranian aggression against Saudi Arabia and the region’s countries. He discussed with Prince Faisal efforts to maintain the security and safety of international waterways, the SPA added.
The Strait of Hormuz, a crucial oil chokepoint for the global economy, remains closed by Iranian forces due to their conflict with the US and Israel, shaking markets and prolonging instability in the Middle East.
The UK and France convened military planners from over 30 nations in London on Wednesday — including the Netherlands, Bahrain, and Australia — to outline a plan to reopen the Strait of Hormuz.
