RIYADH: Fruit cultivation is a key pillar of food security and agricultural diversity in Najran Province, supported by its moderate climate, fertile soil and abundant water resources.

The region is known for producing a range of distinctive fruit varieties, including red guava, which has emerged as a promising investment crop with strong economic viability. The number of productive red guava trees in Najran is estimated at around 7,000.

Director General of the Ministry of Environment, Water and Agriculture branch in Najran, Murih Al-Shahrani, confirmed the region was undergoing an agricultural transformation, reflecting the significant support extended to the sector by the Kingdom’s leadership.

Red guava had become a hallmark of Najran’s agricultural output, he said, with farmers successfully leveraging local soil and climatic conditions to produce high-quality fruit.

Al-Shahrani added the ministry was placing considerable emphasis on developing the cultivation of such promising crops by providing technical support to farmers.

These efforts contribute to achieving Saudi Vision 2030 objectives relating to food security and self-sufficiency, while also creating investment and employment opportunities in agriculture and processing industries.

Al-Sharani also expressed pride in the advanced production levels achieved by farms across the region.
