Saudi Arabia denied on Thursday that it had authorised the use of its airspace to support offensive military operations, amid mounting regional tensions and reports circulating online about the Kingdom’s position in the ongoing confrontation involving Iran.
A Saudi source told Al Arabiya that Riyadh “has not authorized the use of its airspace to support offensive military operations” adding that the Kingdom was seeking to de-escalate the situation.
“There are parties seeking to paint a misleading picture of the Kingdom’s position for suspicious reasons” the source added.
The remarks come amid heightened tensions in the Gulf and renewed questions over whether regional states could be drawn more directly into the confrontation between Iran, Israel and the United States. Saudi Arabia has repeatedly stressed for dialogue and regional stability.
