LONDON: Pilgrims from Jordan are set to depart this week for Saudi Arabia to perform the annual Hajj rituals, expected to take place from May 24-29.

Jordan’s Ministry of Awqaf, Islamic Affairs and Holy Places announced that the first flight of pilgrims will take off after finalizing transportation, logistics, and support services for thousands of worshippers, according to the Petra news agency.

On Wednesday, an official send-off ceremony is scheduled to be held at Pilgrims City in Jiza, south of Amman, according to the report.

In 2025, 8,000 Jordanian nationals performed the Hajj in the holy city of Makkah. The Ministry of Awqaf is also in charge of facilitating the Hajj for 4,500 Palestinian Muslims, who hold Israeli citizenship, by issuing them Jordanian travel documents to enter Saudi Arabia.

Hajj is one of the five pillars of Islam, and every non-disabled Muslim is required to undertake the pilgrimage to the holy cities of Makkah and Madinah at least once in their life.

Thousands of Syrian pilgrims have also begun their journey to perform Hajj in Saudi Arabia this week, with an estimated 21,000 expected to leave the country in the coming days.

On Tuesday, Syrian Airlines resumed Hajj flights for the first time in years from Damascus International Airport to Madinah in the Hijaz region.
