LONDON: Individuals calling themselves Palestinians had reached 15.5 million worldwide at the end of 2025, according to the Palestinian Central Bureau of Statistics.

In the Palestinian Occupied Territories and inside Israel, there are 7.4 million Palestinians, though about 2 million hold Israeli citizenship, which was given to them after the 1948 war.

The PCBS released the report on Tuesday to mark the 78th annual commemoration of Nakba, which led to nearly 750,000 Palestinians fleeing or being forcibly expelled by Israeli paramilitaries.

About 8.1 million people live in the diaspora, of whom 6.8 million reside in Arab countries, according to the report, published by the Wafa news agency.

Around 3.43 million people live in the West Bank and 2.13 million in the Gaza Strip, which are recognized by a majority of UN members as the territories of the Palestinian state.

Israel is accused of committing genocide in Gaza, where it launched a military campaign in late 2023 that resulted in the deaths of more than 72,000 people, leaving the entire population displaced.

Over the same period, Israeli forces have displaced about 40,000 individuals from their homes in northern towns and refugee camps in the West Bank.
