Delivering Vision 2030: How FedEx is supporting Saudi Arabia’s trade expansion

Delivering Vision 2030: How FedEx is supporting Saudi Arabia’s trade expansion

Saudi Arabia’s economic transformation is reshaping regional and global trade flows. Its position between Asia, Europe, and Africa gives the Kingdom a strategic advantage, while Vision 2030 has turned that geography into a long-term logistics and industrial strategy.

Supported by the National Industrial Development and Logistics Program, Saudi Arabia is expanding infrastructure, advancing industrial output, growing non-oil exports, and accelerating its transformation into a more integrated global logistics and trade hub. Non-oil exports reached SR624 billion ($166.6 billion) in 2025, up 15 percent from 2024, while re-exports rose 53 percent to SR139 billion.

This reflects more than trade momentum. It marks a demanding phase of growth, where Saudi-based businesses need logistics networks that connect them to new markets, support industrial expansion, and maintain resilience during disruption. As supply chains become more interconnected, businesses are placing greater emphasis on diversified trade routes and agile logistics networks.

Saudi Arabia is one of the most strategic markets in the Middle East for FedEx. The Kingdom’s scale, location, infrastructure investment, and critical role in cross-border trade reinforce its importance within the FedEx global network. FedEx continues to invest in Saudi Arabia in line with that transformation, focusing on three priorities: stronger connectivity, smarter supply chain management, and broader market access for businesses of all sizes.

Expanding Saudi Arabia’s global trade connectivity

As Saudi Arabia expands its trade footprint, businesses need reliable access to customers, suppliers, and manufacturers across continents. FedEx has strengthened its operating model in the Kingdom to support that growth.

In September 2025, FedEx completed its transition to a direct-serve model in Saudi Arabia, taking full ownership of customs clearance and pickup and delivery operations. This provides customers with a more consistent shipping experience aligned with global FedEx standards. The company also expanded operations across Riyadh, Jeddah, and Dammam through four gateways and four stations, supported by a head office in Riyadh.

FedEx also launched its first dedicated nonstop B777 flight into Saudi Arabia, operating six times a week and connecting the Kingdom with the US and Europe. This made FedEx the first express logistics provider to offer a nonstop route from the West to Saudi Arabia and onwards to Asia, improving access to global trade lanes and supporting Vision 2030’s goals to diversify the economy, facilitate trade, and position the Kingdom as a global logistics hub.

The FedEx Logistics division also provides freight forwarding services across air, road, and ocean, alongside transit cargo capabilities and customs brokerage. These services strengthen connectivity between Saudi Arabia and key markets across the GCC, South Asia, and Africa while supporting more resilient supply chains.

Regional connectivity remains central to Saudi Arabia’s trade growth. The FedEx Middle East Road Network connects Saudi Arabia with GCC markets and Jordan, while planned road corridors linking Riyadh with Jeddah, Dammam, and neighboring GCC markets are expected to further integrate FedEx air and road operations.

Supporting Saudi Arabia’s advanced and time-sensitive industries

Saudi Arabia’s export mix is becoming increasingly sophisticated. Machinery, equipment, and related re-exports rose from SR11 billion in 2021 to SR74 billion in 2025, pointing to higher-value trade flows linked to the Kingdom’s expanding industrial base. This shift is increasing demand for specialized, time-sensitive, and resilient logistics capabilities.

For these sectors, logistics performance is directly tied to business continuity. A delayed machinery component can disrupt production, while temperature-sensitive health care shipments can quickly lose value.

FedEx supports medium-to-heavy freight shipments that require specialized handling, routing expertise, and end-to-end visibility. FedEx International Priority enables time-definite delivery, typically within two to three business days to major global markets, helping businesses move urgent shipments quickly and reliably across borders. This capability is becoming increasingly important as Saudi Arabia advances into higher-value manufacturing, health care, energy, and advanced industrial sectors.

For sensitive, high-value, or regulated goods, FedEx Surround, supported by FedEx SenseAwareSM, provides predictive insights and near real-time shipment data, helping businesses identify risks earlier and make faster, more informed decisions.

In today’s disrupted trade environment, shifting routes, evolving regulations, capacity constraints, and delays can affect production schedules and customer commitments. Resilient logistics networks and visibility are therefore becoming key competitive differentiators.

Helping Saudi-based businesses scale globally

Small and medium enterprises and e-commerce businesses play a central role in Saudi Arabia’s next phase of trade growth, yet international expansion can still be constrained by shipping costs, customs requirements, and delivery expectations.

FedEx supports these businesses through services tailored to different shipping needs. FedEx International Economy provides a cost-effective air transportation option for less time-sensitive goods, while FedEx Regional Economy services connect Saudi Arabia through the Middle East Road Network for less urgent shipments. For online sellers, FedEx International Connect Plus supports lightweight cross-border e-commerce shipments up to 20 kg.

Digital tools are also enabling businesses to manage cross-border shipping and growing shipment volumes more efficiently. The FedEx Import Tool streamlines customs clearance through centralized import documentation, shipment visibility, and online duty and tax payments. In addition, FedEx Delivery Manager International gives recipients in Saudi Arabia greater control over delivery timing and location, including WhatsApp notifications in English and Arabic, helping e-commerce businesses enhance their post-purchase customer experience through greater delivery flexibility and visibility.

FedEx also supports SME readiness through its knowledge-sharing Cluster Program and industry sessions, equipping businesses with guidance on shipping strategy, customs processes, and cross-border market access. Through collaboration with public sector stakeholders, including the Saudi Export Development Authority under the Made in Saudi program, FedEx is supporting the global reach of Saudi products and enabling local businesses to connect more efficiently with international customers. These public-private collaborations support Vision 2030’s goals to grow non-oil exports, strengthen SME competitiveness, and reinforce the Kingdom’s position in global trade.

Building the next phase of Saudi trade

As Saudi Arabia positions itself as a global logistics and trade hub under Vision 2030, supply chain demands will continue to evolve. Businesses will increasingly compete on resilience, agility, and their ability to respond quickly to changing market conditions. Meeting those expectations will require logistics networks that combine infrastructure, digital intelligence, and global reach.

FedEx is investing in that future through expanded connectivity, advanced logistics capabilities, and integrated digital solutions that help Saudi-based businesses scale internationally, strengthen supply chain resilience, and support the Kingdom’s long-term diversification and expanding role in global trade.
