The new parks are part of the "100 Parks in 100 Weeks" initiative the municipality introduced last year and are estimated to cover more than 20,000 square meters. The municipality hopes these newly built parks will add to the city's overall green space area. "We have inaugurated the five parks today, which include the 5,250-square-meter Al-Saqia park and 4,500-square-meter Oyoon Shaahar park in Aziziyah, Al-Tadamon park in Mushrefah, the 5,280 square-meter Al-Yarmouk garden in Al-Bawadi, and finally the 2,500 square-meter Allmayaa park in Rehab," Bahghat Hamoh, head of parks and city beautification at the municipality, said on Sunday. "All the parks are equipped with necessary facilities, including sitting areas and lighting poles to add to the pleasant atmosphere for visitors, while some are equipped with children playgrounds."Hamoh revealed to Arab News that his department through this year’s budget is planning three major more projects in the city. These projects will include 40 more parks and gardens, a 150,000-square meter seaside recreational area near Dhahban, as well as several walking paths in the southern and northern neighborhoods in Jeddah. There are approximately 500 parks and gardens in and around Jeddah that have, due to neglect over the years, become overgrown and unpleasant to visit.
