Saudi Electricity and Alfanar sign SR1.9bn deals

Alfanar will add 280MW to a power plant extension in Hail, the contractor said in a statement on Sunday.
The Hail 2 Power Plant — Extension III project is aimed at increasing capacity to meet the future demand and to support the existing generation capability of the region, which will enable the future conversion of the plant into combined cycle.
The first two units will be online in August 2012.
The second contract is for the construction of six 380- kilovolt substations for the high-speed double-track Haramain Railway linking Makkah and Medina.
The substations are expected to be in service within 24 months.
Dr. Saleh Al Awaji, chairman of Saudi Electricity Company board and Sabah Al Mutlaq, vice-chairman of Alfanar, signed the deals.
The statement pointed out that Alfanar Construction is expected to complete work on Hail 2- extension II power plant before summer.
The Sharourah Power Plant in the far southern region was completed recently.
