IDB-backed Hyderabad institute opens doors

Hyderabad Institute of Excellence, which was established recently with financial support of the Jeddah-based Islamic Development Bank, aims at producing future leaders by providing quality education to brilliant Muslim students, said Ibrahim Mohammed Masood, an executive at the bank’s special assistance department.
“The institute also intends to provide training and coaching to 100 graduates to pass civil service examinations,” Masood told Arab News, while commending IDB’s efforts to support Muslims all over the world by extending financial assistance to carry out educational and health projects. The IDB has given financial assistance to 272 projects in India.
“By the grace of God, the institute, which is designed to accommodate 250 students, is now operational. They have conducted an admission test in 42 centers covering all the 23 districts of Andhra Pradesh for the selection of students,” Masood said.
Out of the 940 students who appeared for the test, 132 top performers were selected after conducting personal interviews, he explained.
Speaking about the project’s first phase, which has been completed, he said it included buildings for the academic block, an indoor stadium and a hostel. All these facilities have been provided with furniture imported from China, he said, adding that arrangements have also been made for the stay of faculty members in the campus. Classes commenced at the institute on July 10, 2013.
The campus is located in Vikarabad, 70 km west of Hyderabad. “The project is in line with the IDB’s vision to improve the socio-economic condition of Muslim communities in non-member countries,” said Masood.
“The institute will provide modern education in an Islamic environment,” he added. Poor students from rural areas will benefit from the project, as 60 percent admissions will be reserved for them.
