The 6th Riyadh Triathletes event of the season was Duathlon No. 2, which entailed a 5km run followed by an 18km cycle then a 2.5km run.
Hot conditions at the maze humps saw a challenging venue with hills and heat as the temperature begins to rise day on day. Once again a great turnout of participants saw 67 individuals taking part including club members who raced in a duathlon for the first time on a challenging course in hot conditions.
Martin Ball continued to show he is on the way to his best with a victory over long time rival Kris Ahlin in second place. Third place went to Dan Bennellick. A fantastic performance for his first podium finish as well as first winning bike split time – Strava, a regimental diet and some very hard training seems to be the winning formula. Other age group winners were: Rosie Wild, Cameron Ball, Eduardo Lando, Sarah Townhill (who thrashed her husband for the first time), and Paul McParland.
Once again a great crowd of spectators gave vocal encouragement to all participants. A number of newcomers entered this discipline of duathlon (run, bike, run). Next weekend is the second full triathlon event of the season (swim 600m — bike 120km – Run 4.5km), where participants will be tested on all three triathlon disciplines, or any combination of each one if they prefer.
Riyadh Triathletes would like to thank the main sponsors Airbus Defense and Space, 2XU and Carrefour @5 Le Mall for their ongoing support this season.
