US citizen pleads guilty on terror charges

MIAMI: One of two men charged in an FBI online chat room sting operation has pleaded guilty to terrorism-support charges.
The US Attorney’s Office in Miami said in a news release that 31-year-old Gufran Ahmed Kauser Mohammed pleaded guilty Friday to one count of conspiring to provide material support to terrorists. He faces up to 15 years in prison at his Oct. 24 sentencing.
Mohammed is a naturalized US citizen from India.
Prosecutors say an undercover FBI employee posing as a terror-financing middleman used the chat room to pretend to work with Mohammed on financing for Al-Qaeda and affiliated terror groups in Syria and East Africa.
Another defendant, Mohamed Hussein Said of Kenya, is maintaining his not guilty plea.
