SRO sets new policies on safety and environmental protection

The Saudi Railways Organization (SRO) has come up with new policies to achieve the benefits of rail transportation for the national economy as well as to provide a work environment that enables upgrading behavioral practices by contributing in increasing the productivity, reduce costs and raise the level of quality.
The apex railway organization has issued an official circular to all its sectors, which includes the SRO’s new policies for health, safety, environment and quality as part of its efforts for the development of work systems so as to provide safe, efficient and reliable services, and ensure the adoption of administrative and technical effective methods to drive continuous improvements in health, safety and protection of the environment within the scope of operation.
Commenting on it, Mohammed Khalid Al-Suwaiket, SRO president, said: “The new policy documents set out the SRO’s strategy and approach toward health, safety, quality and the environment, and how likely residual risks will be managed and controlled to ensure the safety of the railways, our staff and the safety of the public we serve as well as to improve the health and safety culture within the organization, its suppliers and contractors.”
Al-Suwaiket maintained that the SRO is now looking strategically for the best methods and practices of professional quality to be applied in order to enhance the awareness of its staff to ensure a behavior improvement in their areas of health, safety, quality and protection of the environment within the scope of its operations particularly in the sectors of operation, maintenance and administrative offices according to a highly professional performance, which will be at par with the best in the world. He added that the investment in these areas represents a quantum leap in the management thought adopted in the organization at this stage.
“It is part of its overall strategy to improve the health and safety culture within the organization, its suppliers and contractors,” he noted.
Moreover, the SRO expects that the proceeds derived from this investment will be very high, especially in providing services with high quality to achieve the benefits of rail transportation for the national economy in general, as well as to provide a work environment that enables upgrading behavioral practices in these areas and contributing in increasing the productivity, reduce costs and raise the level of quality.
It is also expected to maintain pace with the challenges of ongoing rapid economic growth in the Kingdom, fulfill the aspirations of the people, the needs of changing technology and the expanding market while at the same time ensuring adequate focus on addressing social and strategic requirements of the Kingdom in consonance with national aspirations.
