Southern border security project under way

The Border Guard has revealed that work has begun on reinforcing basic security infrastructure on the country’s southern border.
Maj. Gen. Awad Al-Bluwe, general manager of the Border Guard, said companies have begun working to ensure the country can protect all its borders.
Al-Bluwe said government has already trained 3,397 officers in operations, management, and systems maintenance, with training ongoing.
Previously borders were guarded from 36 posts by a team of 6,252 officers, but now the project would be operated via electronic and radar monitoring systems supported by artificial barriers to identify and stop infiltrators.
Maj. Gen. Faleh Subai’i, head of the Border Guard in the northern region, said that individual manpower was used in the past to stop infiltrators and smugglers, but now a comprehensive electronic system is in place to do this.
He said there are response centers with a number of personnel ready to face any situation and respond to any complaints or reports. These centers contain all services and facilities. These communications are passed through a computerized device, known as “Jay Talk.” When border guards are on patrol, they are provided with information about the location and others details of infiltrators and smugglers.
