Fire guts Al-Khumra warehouse

Fifteen firefighting units took part to extinguish a major blaze that engulfed a warehouse in south Jeddah. “Nobody was injured when the Civil Defense officers stormed into the fire site to rescue people trapped inside the warehouse,” said Lt. Col. Walid Abushanab, deputy spokesman of the department.
He said the fire gutted a warehouse in Al-Khumra district. “The department’s command center in Jeddah received a call about the fire at 11:45 on Wednesday,” he said. “Fire engines with support units then moved to the site,” he said, adding that the warehouse, covering an area of nearly 25 square meters, contained health materials, clothe and curtains.
He said the department’s firefighters quelled the blaze from all sides in order to prevent it from spreading to other facilities as a result of wind. “The fire is now under control,” he added.
Madinah accident: An expatriate worker died and four others injured when an electricity tower in Madinah fell on Wednesday. The injured were taken to hospital in Red Crescent ambulance vehicles.
Khaled Al-Sahli, spokesman of Red Crescent, said the accident took place while the workers were climbing on the tower. “Two of the injured are in critical condition and have been taken to a private hospital for treatment,” he said.
