JEDDAH: Shaheen Air, a private Pakistani airline, announced Wednesday that the Pakistani government has allowed it to transport Haj pilgrims this year.
Tahir Majeed, the airline’s country manager, speaking at the opening of the company’s new office in Jeddah, said that 25,000 to 30,000 pilgrims would be transported this year. The airline carried 18,000 pilgrims last year, he said.
Sheikh Abdul Mohsin, director of operations; Khalid Al-Harbi, Haj manager; and Arif Hani, Shaheen Air sponsor; were present at the opening of the new office.
Majeed said the company operates 18 flights from Jeddah, five from Riyadh, four from Dammam and two from Madinah, to almost all the major cities in Pakistan.
He said there are plans to increase the flights to 32 a week from Jeddah, using newly acquired planes. The company has branches in Riyadh, Dammam and Madinah.
