Pakistan zindabad

Thanks to Almighty Allah, we just celebrated Pakistan’s 69th Independence Day.

The country was created on the night of 27th Ramadan. We salute our forefathers who crafted a vision for a new country for Muslims. We also salute all those men who sacrificed their lives; the women who were victimized; the parents who offered their sons and daughters for the freedom fight; and all those who crossed the river of blood to reach their dream nation only to provide a strong foundation for its future building.

Since its birth in 1947, we have crossed many milestones in almost every field of life. Belying skepticism of the cynics, we emerged to be a big nation. With a population of more than 180 million, Pakistan is the sixth largest country in terms of population.

The most proud moment came on May 28, 1998, when we became the first Islamic nuclear power in the world.

Pakistan has made progress in every field of life. We are now in much better position in terms of economy and living standards.

The country has several educational and technical institutions of international repute. Pakistan has had a glorious history of sports in cricket, hockey, squash, snooker, boxing etc.

Our armed forces are one of the best in the world and these forces always play an important role in peacekeeping activities under auspices of the UN.

Pakistan is fighting terrorism and since the launch of operation ‘Zarb-e-Azb,’ the security has improved. It backs good relations with neighboring countries and keeps special relations with Muslim states.

In conflict management, Pakistan has played an important role in the peaceful solution of disputes between countries. But we have many miles to go. We need to make it a welfare state. The government should not spare efforts to take necessary steps and decisions for the progress of country.

Instead of glorifying individual personalities, we should praise good work done by a leader, as also castigate those leaders who failed their people, regardless of party affiliation.

We will celebrate Independence Day every year, but unless we are sincere and loyal to our nation, this won’t hold any meaning in the real sense. May our country live long! Pakistan zindabad. — Muhammad Mushtaq, Riyadh
