Bringing Ugandan maid costs SR8,250

JEDDAH: The less number of offices recognized by Uganda to recruit its labor has led to an increase in the cost of maids. It now costs SR8,250 for each maid visa, according to an online newspaper.
Uganda has opened seven offices for recruitment of its labor. But these offices have refused to abide by the agreements of the ministries of labor of the two countries. Due to this, the cost of visa and monthly salary has increased, as has happened in the case of other countries, including Bangladesh, as revealed by Majid Al-Haqqas, spokesman of recruitment offices.
He said that the hiring from Uganda was facing problem due to the cost of recruitment offices authorized to send female workers abroad. These offices are only seven.
The Kingdom is the second largest recruiter of workers from Uganda after the UAE. Uganda has surprisingly good female and male cadres who could be successfully hired. But there are certain problems in hiring them in the Saudi job market. The visa cost increased from $1,000 to $2,200 and the salary has increased from SR750 per month to SR900 per month, said Al Haqqas.
He said that the Saudi job market is the best for female Ugandan workers. “I have met a number of Ugandan female workers during interviews. They have good knowledge and they are civilized. They have prior experience of working as house maids. They were willing to get more training before landing in the Kingdom.”
